While the California Solar Initiative (CSI) rebate program is coming to an end, solar has become more affordable than ever.  Due to the dramatic cost reduction of solar system installations, coupled with the investment tax credit (ITC) which will stay at 30 percent through 2016, solar will continue to be affordable for homeowners even after the end of CSI.  To read about the history of the CSI rebate program, click here.

MarinCountyMap

With funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Million Solar Roofs Initiative, the Marin Solar Program was able to create a solar potential map of the county. If you are a resident of Marin County interested in installing a Solar Photovoltaic system, this is a great place to start your research.  You can view the maps here and then call Gaia Energy Systems at 877-424-2776 for a free estimate.

Firefighting Solar

Since the implementation of the Cal Fire Photovoltaic Installation Guideline which includes a three foot setback on residential and commercial buildings, there has been a great deal of resistance within the solar community.  That resistance extends to solar clients who don’t understand why they can’t put as much solar as they need on their roof.  At Gaia, safety is of utmost importance to us.  Not only the safety of our employees and our customers, but also of those brave men and women who have given their lives to the service of the community as firefighters.  The attached article the UL has created about  Firefighter Safety and Photovoltaic Systems outlines and explains why this setback is necessary.  Read full article here.
